What Fits a Gladiator - 35s, 37s, and 40s
The Gladiator shares its 5×5 bolt pattern and front end with the JL Wrangler, but the 137-inch wheelbase and pickup bed change what clears out back. Here is how each size fits.
Gladiator Wheel Specs at a Glance
Every 2020-2026 Gladiator JT - Sport, Willys, Overland, Rubicon, Mojave - uses a 5×5 (5×127) bolt pattern with a 71.5 mm hub bore and M14×1.5 lugs, the same as the JL Wrangler. Factory wheels are 17x7.5 or 18x7.5 at +44 offset; the aftermarket standard is a 17x9 at -12 offset (4.5" backspacing) or 0 offset (5" backspacing) for a flush, no-spacer stance.

How Big Can You Go?
- Rubicon & Mojave, no lift: 35x12.50R17s fit on a 17x9 at 0 to -12 offset with light rubbing on the front bumper corners at full lock; Mojave owners should watch the rear at full compression. The most popular Gladiator package we build.
- Sport & Overland, no lift: 33s (285/70R17) fit clean. 35s want a 1.5-2.5" lift and the higher Rubicon fender flares or a small trim.
- 2.5-3.5" lift: 37x12.50R17s on a 17x9 -12 fit with bump-stop extensions to keep the rear tire out of the bed's wheel tubs at full compression. Plan on a regear.
- 4.5"+ lift: 40s fit with bump stops, trimmed flares, and a regear to 5.13 or 5.38 - the 2.5" Evo build on 40x13.50R17s in our customer gallery shows how much room the long wheelbase gives you.
Backspacing decides whether a tire hits the frame, the sway bar, or the fender. On a Gladiator, 4.5" backspacing (-12 offset) is the safe standard for 35s and 37s; anything deeper pushes the tire into the front control arms at full lock.
Gearing on 35s, 37s, and 40s
Rubicons come with 4.10 gears and fit 35s without a regear. Sport and Overland trucks with 3.73s (4.10 optional) feel soft on 35s and slow on 37s. The rule of thumb: 4.56-4.88 for 35s and 37s, 5.13-5.38 for 40s. The 3.0L EcoDiesel has more torque to spare but its 3.73 gears still benefit from 4.56 on 37s. Recalibrate the speedometer for the new tire diameter with a tuner or the dealer.
All-Terrain vs. Mud-Terrain on a Gladiator
- All-Terrain (A/T): the right call for an overland or daily-driven truck - quiet, long-wearing, and light. Toyo Open Country A/T III and Nitto Ridge Grappler are the top sellers in 35x12.50R17.
- Mud-Terrain (M/T): maximum traction for trail rigs, louder on the highway and faster wearing. Nitto Trail Grappler, Toyo Open Country M/T, and Mickey Thompson Baja Legend MTZ lead this category.
The Gladiator's longer wheelbase and rear leaf springs make it more stable on 37s than a Wrangler, but the extra mass of an E-rated 37 is still felt in braking and fuel economy. A load range C or D 35 is the lighter, more comfortable choice for a truck that does not tow heavy. Every tire on this page lists its load range and weight.
