Free Mount & Balance - and We'll Actually Mount Them

Most chain shops won't touch oversized or E-rated off-road tires - wrong equipment, or they cap you at factory sizes. We mount, balance, and ship your set assembled, ready to bolt on. Free when you buy wheels and tires together - a $150-$250 job anywhere else.

What Fits a Tacoma - 31s to 35s Without the Guesswork

The Tacoma has the tightest wheel wells of the trucks we build, so offset and body-mount clearance matter more than on a full-size. Here is how each size fits.

Tacoma Wheel Specs at a Glance

Every 4WD and PreRunner Tacoma from 1995 to 2026 uses a 6×5.5 (6×139.7) bolt pattern with a large 106.1 mm hub bore. The lug thread changed with the 4th generation: 2005-2023 trucks are M12×1.5, 2024+ trucks are M14×1.5, so lug nuts come with the wheels. 1995-2004 2WD (non-PreRunner) trucks are 5×4.5 and are the only exception.

Bolt pattern6×5.5 (4WD & PreRunner, 1995-2026)
Hub bore106.1 mm - most aftermarket wheels are 106.1 hub-centric

Factory offsetRoughly +25 to +30 mm on 16-18" wheels

How Big Can You Go?

  • Stock height (2nd/3rd gen): a 265/75R16 or 265/70R17 (31.6") is the easy upgrade. A 285/75R16 or 285/70R17 (32.7") fits with a 16x8 or 17x8.5 at 0 to +10 offset and light rubbing on the front mud flap and liner at full lock.
  • 2-3" lift: the sweet spot for 33s (285/75R16, 285/70R17, 33x10.50R17). With a 0 to -6 offset wheel the tire will touch the cab mount at full lock; a cab-mount chop (CMC) or relocation bracket clears it for good.
  • 3"+ lift with CMC: 35x12.50R17s fit with the cab mount cut, trimmed fender liners and pinch weld, and a wheel around -12 offset. Expect a regear.
  • 6" lift: 35s clear without body work, and 37x12.50s fit with trimming - the 6" Rough Country and Fabtech builds in our customer gallery are on this combination.
  • 4th gen (2024+): TRD Pro and Trailhunter already run 33s on 18s. Other trims fit 33s stock with a 0 to +10 offset wheel; 35s need a 2-3" lift and liner trimming.

Wheel width and offset move the tire more than diameter on a Tacoma. A 17x8.5 at 0 offset (4.75" backspacing) is the standard 33" setup; going to 17x9 -12 pokes the tire out past the flare and into the cab mount sooner.

Gearing on 33s and 35s

Tacomas come with 3.73, 3.909, or 4.10 gears depending on year and engine. A 33 on any of them is fine for daily driving. 35s on stock gears turn the V6 and the 6-speed automatic into a downshift machine - most owners regear to 4.88 (or 5.29 on 2.7L four-cylinders) when they go to 35. Recalibrate the speedometer for the new diameter either way.

All-Terrain vs. Mud-Terrain on a Tacoma

  • All-Terrain (A/T): the right call for an overland or daily-driven truck - quiet, long-wearing, and light enough not to kill the V6. Toyo Open Country A/T III and Nitto Ridge Grappler are the top sellers here.
  • Mud-Terrain (M/T): maximum traction for trail rigs, louder on the highway and faster wearing. Nitto Trail Grappler and BFGoodrich KM3 lead this category.

Weight matters more on a mid-size truck than a full-size. A load range C 33 can be 10 lb per tire lighter than an E - noticeably better for acceleration, braking, and fuel economy on a Tacoma that does not tow heavy. Every tire on this page lists its load range and weight.

Why Buy the Package Instead of Separately?

Buying wheels and tires together means we check the whole combination - bolt pattern, hub bore, offset, diameter, and load rating - against your year, trim, and lift before anything ships. We mount and balance the set for free, install TPMS sensors if you add them, and ship the four assembled wheels free to your door. Bolt them on, torque the lugs to 83 ft-lb (M12) or as specified, and drive. No shop appointment, no $150-250 mounting bill.

Tacoma Wheel & Tire Questions

All 4WD and PreRunner Tacomas from 1995 to 2026 are 6×5.5 (6×139.7) with a 106.1 mm hub bore. 2WD non-PreRunner trucks from 1995-2004 are 5×4.5. Lug nuts changed for 2024: M14×1.5 on 4th gen, M12×1.5 on everything earlier.

A 285/75R16 or 285/70R17 (32.7") fits a stock 2005-2023 Tacoma on a 16x8 or 17x8.5 wheel at 0 to +10 offset with light rubbing on the front mud flap and liner at full lock. A true 33x10.50 or 33x12.50 wants a 2-3" lift and, with aggressive offsets, a cab-mount chop.

A 3" or taller lift, a cab-mount chop or relocation bracket, trimmed fender liners and pinch weld, a wheel around -12 offset (17x9 with 4.5" backspacing), and a regear to 4.88. A 6" lift clears 35s without body work.

33s are fine on the factory gears. 35s on stock gears make the V6 hunt for gears constantly; most owners regear to 4.88 (5.29 on the 2.7L). Recalibrate the speedometer either way.

Yes - and we will actually mount them. Many chain shops refuse oversized tires; we mount and balance every set we sell, including 35s and 37s, free when you buy the wheels and tires together. That is typically $150-$250 of install work you keep, and the set ships assembled and ready to bolt on.

Yes. Add OE-compatible sensors during the build and we install them with your package. Toyotas need the sensor IDs registered with a TPMS tool - most tire shops and dealers do it in a few minutes.

Yes. When you supply your year, trim, and lift during the build, we check the combo against bolt pattern, hub bore, diameter, offset, and load rating before shipment. We have built lifted Toyotas since 1986 - fitment is the part we got into this business to get right.
